Introduction

The European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA) is committed to develop evidence-based clinical guidelines of high quality. The ESA Guidelines Committee selected the ‘Reduction of Postoperative Delirium’ as a topic of interest and dedicated a Task Force – established in March 2013 – to cover this matter. The ESA Guidelines Committee chose the members of the Task Force (CDS, CA, GB, FB and RDS) based on their clinical and methodological expertise.
